The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) alerts the public to a fraudulent website and internet banking login screen related to Chong Hing Bank Limited.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued an alert concerning a fraudulent website and internet banking login screen masquerading as Chong Hing Bank Limited. This announcement was made to protect the public from potential phishing scams, as reported by the HKMA.
The HKMA’s warning comes after reports surfaced about a deceptive website and internet banking login screen designed to mimic those of Chong Hing Bank. The fraudulent site aims to extract sensitive information from unsuspecting users. Chong Hing Bank has issued a press release on this matter, which is available for the public on the HKMA website.
The HKMA reminds the public that legitimate banks do not send emails or SMS messages containing embedded hyperlinks directing customers to their websites for transactions. Additionally, banks will never request sensitive personal information, such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords, via phone, email, or SMS, including through embedded links.
Individuals who have inadvertently provided personal information or conducted financial transactions through the fraudulent website are advised to contact Chong Hing Bank immediately using the contact details provided in the official press release. Furthermore, they should report the incident to the police by reaching out to the Crime Wing Information Centre of the Hong Kong Police Force at 2860 5012.
The HKMA continues to monitor the situation closely and urges the public to remain vigilant against such fraudulent activities.
