CoreWeave has launched its first UK data centers in Crawley and London Docklands, hosting NVIDIA H200 GPUs to enhance AI infrastructure, as part of a £1bn investment.
CoreWeave, known for its advanced AI cloud platforms, has made significant strides in the United Kingdom with the operational launch of its first two data centers located in Crawley and London Docklands. These centers are notable for hosting Europe’s substantial NVIDIA H200 GPU deployments, intending to bolster the UK’s AI infrastructure capabilities, according to PR Newswire.
CoreWeave’s initiatives in the UK are part of a broader £1 billion investment strategy announced last year, underscoring the company’s commitment to expanding its footprint in Europe. The Crawley data center, operational since October 2024 in collaboration with Digital Realty, and the London Docklands center, live since December 2024 with Global Switch, are both powered entirely by renewable energy, aligning with CoreWeave’s sustainability goals.
The launch of these data centers follows CoreWeave’s designation of London as its European headquarters in 2024 and a further commitment of £750 million announced at the International Investment Summit. These strategic moves highlight the UK’s importance in CoreWeave’s global operations, as emphasized by Mike Mattacola, Chief Business Officer at CoreWeave. He noted the UK’s growing market significance and the company’s plans for further development in the region.
CoreWeave’s infrastructure is crafted specifically for AI workloads, distinguishing itself from traditional cloud solutions that often struggle with legacy architectures. The UK data centers are part of a global network, with CoreWeave having opened 28 data centers worldwide by the end of 2024 and planning ten additional centers in 2025.
The initiative has received positive remarks from industry leaders and government officials. Rachel Reeves, Chancellor of the Exchequer, praised the investment as a testament to the UK’s robust digital technology sector. Meanwhile, Séamus Dunne, Managing Director at Digital Realty, and Ashley Muldoon, CEO of Global Switch, expressed enthusiasm about their partnerships with CoreWeave, highlighting the advancement of AI infrastructure in Europe.
With these developments, CoreWeave is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of AI technology in the UK and beyond, leveraging its specialized cloud platform to empower enterprises in the AI domain.
